Q4 2025 Newsletter

Mark Hochreiter
Mark Hochreiter

Happy Holiday season everyone. I wanted to get a newsletter out before the rush to share some big news and hopefully ease some concerns you might be having leading into the very busy Holiday Season.

The biggest news first, Mark Warner is retiring at the end of the year. Please join me in showing your gratitude for all that Mark has done for all of us over his 30 years of service to our company, your stores, and this industry. Mark has always had our customers best interest at heart and worked endless hours into the night for each and every one of you at some point in his career. Mark has worked on the SquareOne system imrchnt and im+. He’s traveled throughout the country and beyond to help set up stores, do inventories, and provide general support. I for one will miss my travel buddy and the many memorable meals we shared with each other on the road.

We are all wishing you an incredible retirement Mark.

Thank you for all you have done for us over these 30 years!

im+ is LIVE!

Well, it’s technically been live since June, but we’ve been making sure to have almost everything worked out before really announcing it. From this point forward to keep things somewhat clear, we will be referring to the current imrchnt as Legacy imrchnt and the new application as im+

A huge thanks to Still North Books and Bar especially Allie Levy the owner and H Rooker the Manager. H has been the one really taking it out and using it at events and they are really excited about the possibilities of this new application. A quote from H after the first few events says it all. "I've never had such a smooth time at a large offsite and I can't tell you how excited I am about it!"

Still North is so excited about the new application that they are going to use im+ as an in-store line cutter over the Holiday season.

They will be able to lookup inventory and process a transaction using Tap to Pay, print, email or text a receipt to their customer all on their Android phone from anywhere inside or outside of their store.

We’d also like to thank Boulder Bookstore and CLASS bookstore in Houston, TX for joining the Beta program.

If you would like to get going on im+ visit imrchnt.com and fill out the Request Access form.

Microsoft Updates

For any of you using an RDP session to access imrchnt we are all painfully aware of the impact that Microsoft updates have been having on our ability to use imrchnt through an RDP session.

Thanks to Green Mountain IT who works with Phoenix Books it was discovered that the issue was with our use of ThinPrint to print locally from an RDP session. The Microsoft updates were impacting ThinPrint, causing the RDP session to crash.

ThinPrint has produced an update and we are back in working operation.

If you receive a Microsoft update that causes your RDP session to crash. All the needs to be done on that PC is for a new version of ThinPrint to be installed.

Occasionally some additional work needs to be done to get Printer formatting or assignments through PC settings back in working condition.

If you are impacted by a Microsoft Update, send an email to support@imrchnt.com and we will get you back up and going.

Nickel Rounding at POS

As I’m sure you are all aware, the U.S. Treasury officially stopped producing Pennies on 11/12/2025.

We have a solution already in place to handle penniless change.

Within Tools > Options > POS Tab there is an option called Round Cash to Nickel.

You will need to assign the rounded amount to a POS Tender. Some of you may need to create a new Tender. This would be a Cash tender and the amount rounded up or down is accounted for in this bucket. Mike suggests that the tender be Petty Cash, but you can call it, assign it to whatever you want.

The way this will work at pos is if you owe the customer .22 cents, we will round down and give them back .20 cents. If you owe the customer .23 cents we will round up and give them .25 cents.

There is a request with programming to have another switch within this rounding logic to always favor the customer. Meaning .21 or .22 would give back .25.

Releases

Current Live Release 24.12.03 DB 203

The most current live release is 24.12.03 DB 203, in this release we have added the ability to set some Product Defaults when creating a new product on an order imported from IndieCommerce.

Transfer Manager

In the fall we released our new Transfer Manager module in a limited capacity. Thank you to Harvard Bookstore for working with us in developing that module and proving it out in a live environment.

The Transfer Manager module allows you to create bulk transfers more efficiently than was previously possible through imrchnt. If you have a multi store operation, utilize a warehouse and transfer large quantities of items to and from locations. Our new Transfer Manager module will be a big help in speeding up that process.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Transfer Manager, contact support@imrchnt.com and we will set up a session to walk you through the Module.

Balance Card Redemption Rules

Another big addition, especially for Used stores that have moved to us from Basil we have created the ability within Tender Properties to set Redemption Rules. With this new feature you can set rules for a certain balance card tender on how that balance card can be redeemed at POS. The common example would be that the card could pay for 100% of a used book but only 50% of a new book.

SKU and Last Cost to Inventory Exports

You can now see and export our database generated SKU value within a Product lookup column or export it through our Interfaces > Import/Export data.

The addition of our SKU as well as our Last Cost field, will now make it easier for you to export your inventory to 3rd party applications, including our own im+ application.

This will allow those applications to scan your label then reimport sales made on those applications into the legacy imrchnt POS.

General notice

Card Processing

The user group conversation around Card Processing and imrchnt’s integrations has been brought to my attention by a number of users.

With Legacy imrchnt we are not forcing stores to use our CardPointe (previously referred to as Pineapple Payments) integration. We are not forcing anyone to move anywhere. We did bring our Gravity/ChargeItPro payments integration to an end of life as we could no longer support that integration and the client releases that Gravity was developing.

We will continue to maintain our Datacap integration. This integration makes it possible for a store to choose just about any card processor and integrate to imrchnt.

We would however prefer for stores to use our CardPointe integration over Datacap as we have a stronger relationship with our partners on this integration than we do with Datacap and the on boarding process is much smoother.

With CardPointe we use our friends at Advocharge to meet or beat your current rates, order card readers, and onboard our customers onto the CardPointe gateway.

We can’t do any of that with Datacap and getting started with any Datacap integration is always difficult. We are not the ones who order the card readers and there are always steps missed. We don’t even really know how to order these card readers or what is supposed to be installed on them to make them functional. When it comes to Credit Card integrations with Legacy imrchnt we are not a hardware supplier. From what we can at hardware suppliers we use for other products, the only Ingenico readers available for Datacap integrations are ones that have been brought to an end of life by Ingenico. Anyone with an Ingenico Lane 3000, 5000, 7000, 8000 is operating an end of lifed product. This means that updates to those terminals have stopped and they will eventually become a security risk.

A CardPointe integration takes maybe an hour or two to get you going once you’ve received and powered on your card reader. A Datacap integration often takes weeks of back and forth between multiple parties to figure out what the issue is and to get it resolved. There are no lane fees or trancloud units to purchase with our CardPointe integration.

Candidly we also actually money off of our CardPointe integration due a residual structure that we have negotiated with CardPointe. We make money, it’s easier to implement, our customers get better rates and a nice merchant front end.

Pretty easy to recommend over our Datacap integration.

New Website / New CRM

We have a new website! You will notice that this site doesn’t speak about Legacy imrchnt. This new site is aimed primarily at attracting new customers to our new application.

There will be tools on the site that are available to Legacy imrchnt users.

You will be able to submit Hardware Quote requests from this site for Legacy imrchnt and im+ hardware orders.

You will be able to access our knowledge base, submit feature requests and support tickets from this site as well.

The User guide section within the support mega menu has all of our legacy imrchnt knowledge base available within it.

We are in the process of moving from a number of separate CRM related applications into one within Hubspot. This move to Hubspot will give us far greater insight and capabilities across the team in providing customer service. In addition our knowledge base, ticket system, quoting application, digital marketing, newsletters, and much more will all live within our Hubspot environment. Each one of those is currently a separate service.

We hope you’re all doing well and staying healthy.

Have a great Holiday Season!

Should anything come up we are here to help. The best method of contact is support@imrchnt.com an email sent to that address will be seen by all team members.

If it’s an emergency and we aren’t responsive to the email, our call service can be reached at 802-450-3678 and they will get in touch with whoever is on call that day.

Back up your databases to external drives. Make sure restore points are set on PC’s and don’t be tempted by mysterious links, you don’t owe any money for that Toll you never went through, you didn’t win that prize you never signed up for.

I’ll spare you 10 more pages of scrolling. If you’re interested in learning more about where we are heading with Legacy imrchnt and im+ click here
